My Top 5 Favorite Christmas Movies

With just a week until Christmas, I thought I would spread some Christmas cheer with some of my favorite Christmas movies. These movies always put me in the holiday spirit, plus they are classics.

1. Christmas Vacation: This has been a staple in my family since I was a baby. Although there is no real plot to this movie, it still provides a comical approach to families during the holidays.

2. Elf: A magical tale about a man raised by elves. How can you not love this movie? I have easily seen this movie a million times, and I plan on seeing it a million more. The best way to spread christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear.

3.  The Santa Clause: This movie is underrated. Tim Allen, famous for his one liners, really makes you embrace that fact that Santa really does exist. After all, you put on the suit, you're Santa.

4. Home Alone: If this were to happen to me at 8 years old, I would be highly upset if my parents forgot me while spending the holidays in Paris.  But watching Kevin take down the Wet Bandits by himself kind of makes up for it.

5. A Charlie Brown Christmas: This movie not only shows you the importance that even ugly Christmas trees are beautiful in their own way, but also to appreciate the holidays as a time to spend time with family and friends and not take the over commercialization of the holidays too seriously.

7 Things to Look Forward to This Winter

With winter rapidly approaching and Christmas drawing closer by the day, I felt this would be an optimal time to express what I love most about the cold weather.

1. Snow: I love the cold weather. Seeing snow on the ground is one of things that gets me out of bed in the morning, mainly to scrape the ice off my windshield, so I can get to work on time. But nonetheless, I love how pretty it makes outside.

2. Christmas Lights : As cliched as it sounds, I love christmas. Last year me and my best friend checked out the Zoo Lights at the Detroit Zoo, and I highly recommend it.  Not only are the lights cute, there are tons of winter activities to partake in.

3.Gingerbread Houes: Although I have never actually eaten one because all the ones I have made come from a kit from the store. The process of making them is still the best part. I love making the little villages and its a festive way to showcase my art.

4. Sundays: While it is probably true you can have a lazy Sunday in any season, I particularly like them in the winter. I just feel less guilty when I don't get out of bed until 1 or 2 in the afternoon, and watch Netflix for most of the day. Before you throw judgement my way, every article I have seen says all successful people need a Sunday.  So grab some hot chocolate and a cozy blanket.

5. Mighty Ducks: The mighty ducks movie series is one of my all time favorites. While I probably could watch these movies in the middle of July in dying heat, it's not the point. I always associate this movie with winter time. Who doesn't love Goldberg?

6. Sweaters: A staple in any good fashion wardrobe is a good sweater. I love a big, fluffy, cozy sweater that makes you feel warm even when you are stuck at work. Sweaters come in all shapes and sizes but a good winter sweater just makes the season that much better. You'll be surprise how much the season grows on you when you like your outfit.

7. Miracle: This classic tale about a group of young amateur hockey players and their combine talents that took down the Russians during the height of the cold war is another great winter classic. I can not picture a winter without it. I also watch this movie when I need an inspirational pick me up. Herb Brooks just always speaks to me, because "great moments are born from great opportunity".

Hopefully, this little list gives you some things to look forward to, especially with a snow storm rolling in. Winter isn't all bad. It's actually my favorite time of the year, and I am not just saying that because I have a winter birthday either.

Open Mind Will Open Doors

Knowing that life can take you absolutely anywhere is exciting to me, but also scary.  I often find myself having a hard time wrapping my head around the idea that I could wake up tomorrow with a new challenge that wasn't even on my radar.

I feel the real challenge of this idea is being accepting of whatever comes your way, for whatever change may come may not always be good. That idea alone is what scares me the most. I know there is no way to prevent the bad from happening, but knowing that there is still a potential is enough to stop me in my tracks.

But, you also can't live your life in fear of the bad things that will happen because there is no way to tell what is going to happen. If I had any idea where life was going to take me I probably wouldn't have changed my major 9 times.

Everything in life isn't bad and living in that anticipation only takes away your quality of life. So take chances and take risks because even failing could lead down a path greater than you ever imagined. For example, I had to try 9 different majors to find out I was good with money and math and a career as an accountant would be ideal for me.

Embrace the change as it comes, you will be surprise where it takes you. Whether you find yourself on a new career path or a new path in general, change may be bad at first but worth it in the long run. Everyone has a gift in this world, it is all how you use yours.

The early bird does get the worm but so does every other bird because there are more than enough worms the challenge is getting the worm. Having the fight and the drive will pay off in the long run. Knowing deep down that everything you do today will set you up for tomorrow.

So let's take a step back and not let fear drive our lives and experience life to the fullest. An open mind will open doors. But even a small change is still a change in the world. Now that I am done quoting cliches,  I hope you take some with you.

Remember it's not the size of the dog in the fight, it is the size of the fight in the dog. I talk from experience as a 5'2 lacrosse player.
